My name is Shannon Strawn and I'm the photographer for Black Antler Photography.

 

First, a little bit about me...

I grew up in a small town nestled in the mountains of Montana and basically lived in the outdoors. I am a new Mother of a baby boy and now live in Anchorage, Alaska with the love of my life, Andrew. I have been doing professional photography since 2015 but have always had a love for taking pictures.

 

I found my love of photography during a trip to Alaska while I was visiting family back when I was only 7 years old. We walked into a gift shop where a local photographer was selling his pictures and I remember thinking "I really want to do that!" So I was hooked to photography ever since. Over the years my interest in it only grew more.

Later down the road I saved up for my first DSLR camera and that's when I hit the ground running and haven't looked back.

 

I guess you could say I do a little bit of everything despite encouragement to focus on one thing but I honestly find that hard to do when there are so many wonderful things to capture on camera!

A bit about this little company of mine:

 

Black Antler Photography was named after the memory of my Father, who I lost to Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2015. He was a veteran and had a deep love and respect for the outdoors. He taught me how to hunt, fish, and he showed me how to love the outdoors as well.

Today, being a mom and losing my father, I know that taking pictures is one of the most important things you can do. Photography is more than just a cool picture on a wall. Its a memory frozen in time that you can always look back on. That's why I love to take pictures for people and decided it was one of the things, aside from blogging and art, that I really wanted to do as a career.
